Our Photo Scanning Process

When you send us your photos for scanning to CD or DVD, we scan them with all the care and experience that we apply in our 35mm slide scanning, but with key additions that make all the difference when scanning prints.

We start by cleaning the prints using only compressed air and, if necessary, a soft cloth. We don't use any liquids or chemicals to clean prints before scanning as this may have the unintended effect of damaging the print surface.

We then place the prints on a high-quality flatbed scanner. We do not use an automated photo scanning system because the results are not satisfactory. We scan photos at 300DPI or 600 DPI depending on your requests. Our process assures that we capture all the detail that is present in the print, but without producing exceptionally large digital image files.

Following scanning we complete a series of post-scan processing steps, including color correction, exposure correction, rotation, and cropping. For images that will benefit from the extra treatment, we employ color restoration tools to restore scanned images from heavily faded prints.

When we have finished scanning your prints, we return the digital images to you on DVDs or CDs (along with your original photos). Your order is returned using a trackable label with UPS. Your prints are treated with utmost care while they are in our hands.

In addition to your digital images on disc, we also offer an online gallery service. Select this option on the order form and receive the first month free as a trial. If you don't like it, you may cancel at anytime. If you enjoy the ease and convenience of having your images available online, you don't need to do anything more, and we will simply bill you the monthly fee of $1.99 to store all of your order's images.
