Myth: Scanning services are expensive and slow

Many people believe that using a scanning service like Pixmonix will be more expensive, slower and lower quality than doing the same job themselves. This isn't true with Pixmonix.

Expensive

This is probably the most common misunderstanding about scanning services like Pixmonix. In fact, using Pixmonix for scanning of prints, slides and negatives is very inexpensive compared with doing the work yourself. It is definitely less expensive to use Pixmonix to do the scanning work rather than doing it yourself.

Slow

Pixmonix is fast - normally a few business days for smaller orders.

Compared to doing the work yourself, using Pixmonix to do your scanning work will be faster than doing it yourself. We complete smaller orders in only a couple of days - probably about the same amount of time it would take you to do it yourself. For larger orders, Pixmonix will be able to complete the work much faster than you could doing it yourself. We use many computers and scanners to complete the work in a fraction of the time it would take you to complete it using only a single scanner and computer.

Some of our competitors are slow because they ship your film to India or Costa Rica for processing. Pixmonix never ships your materials out for processing; all of our work is done at our offices in Hillsboro, Oregon. Pixmonix provides faster and more responsive service than our competitors.

Quality

A primary goal for most people considering scanning their film or prints is to get the best possible results. If you have received digital images from your film from your local photo processor, you may be disapointed by the quality and assume that any service will provide similar results. Doing the scanning work yourself can give excellent results. However, in order to be consistent and efficient requires a fair amount of experience with digital image processing tools. Without this experience backed up by good equipment, your results might not be good - and you will certainly spend a lot of time on the effort.
