Realist Slides
Pixmonix will properly align your slides, scan them, and return them to you for easy digital viewing. We will return scans of both images in the stero pair, allowing you to combine the images using any number of techniques to view the 3D image digitally. There are programs for viewing scanned 3D images on your computer, as well as techniques for making stereoscopic images in Photoshop and other tools. Our Realist Scanning Process
We start by cleaning the slides using only compressed air. The film is not removed from the slide mounts. We place the slides on a glass covered film adapter and carefully align the slide mount. Both images must be oriented similarly before scanning or they will not fit together properly when you produce the digital 3D image. Next, we scan these 3D slides using a high-end high-resolution medium format film scanner (not a flatbed scanner or a jerry-built 35mm film scanner adapter). We employ dust and scratch removal technologies during scanning to make the digital images shine. Most of our customers prefer that we forgo sharpening, color correction, and exposure correction (preferring to do this work themselves). We are happy do these correction steps if you request, attempting to keep the two images as similar as possible so that the resulting stereo image is true to the source slide. We carefully crop your images with respect to their alignment in order to minimize problems when viewing them. We do not rotate the images in Photoshop to get them to align as this can cause degredation of the images. If your images are well aligned in the slide mount, they will be well aligned in the digital images. After you have had a chance to preview the scanned images online, we return the digital images to you on arhival quality DVDs or CDs (along with the original slides) using a reliable, trackable carrier. You can align and view your images on the computer using a number of software programs. Your Realist slides are treated with utmost care while they are in our hands. Realist Scanning PricesOur prices are higher for stereo Realist slides than for normal 35mm slides because of the care we put into each of your images so that they are aligned and cropped correctly. We recognize that subtle flaws at any step can cause problems later in the process, especially when you are aligning your images. Given the small size of the film in Realist slides, we suggest scanning your slides at 4000PPI.

Since its development in the 1940s, Realist photographers have been providing an amazing visual experience. The double lens of the 3D camera allows you to see two separate perspectives on the same scene. When viewed properly, you see depth in the image as if you could actually walk into your own picture! The decline of 3D photography (along with film-based photography in general) leaves fewer opportunities for these photographers to find places to get their unique slides mounted and shared with others.
